Running Changes
- Airbag added beginning with Coupe chassis #1109, and Sedan chassis ????. Non-airbag cars have a package shelf in front of the driver's knees.
- Sway bars changed from just a front, to front and rear, starting with Coupe chassis #3682, Sedan chassis ????.
- Various hydraulic system parts changed, starting with Coupe chassis #6901, Sedan chassis ???? (October '89 build). They changed again for the '91 model year. (see hydraulic steering pump)
- Tubular stainless steel exhaust header changed to a cast iron manifold starting with Coupe chassis #13611 (March '90 build), Sedan chassis ????.
- ECU changed P/N, starting with Coupe chassis #15001 (March '90 build), Sedan chassis ????. The older ECU uses the simple VAG 1115 diagnostic tool (that you build with a diode), the newer one supposedly requires the expensive VAG 1551, but I believe that 1115 will still work (instructions coming soon).
- The sunroof changed from steel to smoked glass for 1991 model year (Coupe only?).
Have you found the sticker in the trunk with the feature and color codes? Now you can decipher them by checking out these tables from the parts fiche.
This is a table of the feature codes from the CoupeQ parts fiche. Most of the stuff listed here came standard in the U.S., but some of it was not available here.
