Lighting Protection

E-mail Print PDF
The original DOT lenses are not replaceable, so if one gets shattered, you have to get a whole new headlight assembly. To keep this from happening, you have a couple of options:
  • Vinyl film - this clear vinyl film has adhesive on one side. You apply it to the headlight glass and it protects from all but the most violent impacts. StonGard (800-350-4897) sells pre-cut pieces for the headlights (both DOT and Euro) and fog lights. Griot's Garage (800-345-5789) sells sheets that you cut to fit.
  • Clear plastic/lexan covers. Yes, just like the tinted ones that are on those cars cruising the boulevard, but these don't reduce the light output. I have used a set made by GTS that I got from JC Whitney, but there may be others out there. They snap right on to the headlight frame, and protect the turn signal as well. Unfortunately, the ones I have don't fit on the Euro lights, but I'm planning to try some modifications.
