- Vinyl film - this clear vinyl film has adhesive on one side. You apply it to the headlight glass and it protects from all but the most violent impacts. StonGard (800-350-4897) sells pre-cut pieces for the headlights (both DOT and Euro) and fog lights. Griot's Garage (800-345-5789) sells sheets that you cut to fit.
- Clear plastic/lexan covers. Yes, just like the tinted ones that are on those cars cruising the boulevard, but these don't reduce the light output. I have used a set made by GTS that I got from JC Whitney, but there may be others out there. They snap right on to the headlight frame, and protect the turn signal as well. Unfortunately, the ones I have don't fit on the Euro lights, but I'm planning to try some modifications.
Lighting Protection
The original DOT lenses are not replaceable, so if one gets shattered, you have to get a whole new headlight assembly. To keep this from happening, you have a couple of options:
